We all know that there are differences in carbohydrates - high glycemic, low glycemic, simple sugars, starches, etc. And we know that different carbohydrates are absorbed in the gut and appear in the blood at different rates depending on various factors. For example simple sugars are absorbed more quickly than more complex ones, the rate of absorption of the latter depending on how quickly the complex sugars especially in the form of starches, can be broken down and subsequently absorbed.

Antioxidants form a front line defense against cell damage caused by free radicals, which are involved in muscle, joint and tendon damage and inflammation, degenerative arthritis, even the aging process. The use of antioxidants can reduce free radical damage that occurs when we exercise1 and can also attenuate the ongoing damage to injured tissues caused by free radicals, thus accelerating the healing process. As well, antioxidants have been shown to enhance aerobic performance.2

The emphasis these days has shifted to specific amino acids over the use of others. For example the essential amino acids, especially leucine, are considered important and many feel that the other amino acids aren't necessary. Others feel that the a few of the conditionally essential amino acids, such as glutamine and arginine, are also extremely important for maximizing body composition and exercise performance.

But that's not the case. All of the amino acids are important, in one way or another. Ignoring them can be a big mistake.
