John Kiefer

Kiefer sees himself first and foremost as a geek. With a Masters in Physics, a former career in software engineering and the occasional time wasted working on abstruse mathematical problems, this is no surprise. But with a personal motto like mens sana in corpore sano (a sound mind in a sound body), he is also obsessed with human high performance. He’s always writing on training techniques and nutrition, and he never hesitates to chime in when he disagrees with anything in the world of health, diet and fitness. Because of his extensive knowledge base, Kiefer advises athletes across several disciplines. His current client list includes power lifters, strongmen, both male and female physique-based competitors, IronMan® competitors and marathoners. He also consults with top strength coaches, writes for various websites and is developing novel automated software to create optimized, individual diet and training regimens. In The Carb Nite® Solution — his first endeavor into health writing—Kiefer researched several aspects of human performance and physique transformation by heading straight to the source: peer-reviewed research journals. The book was the result of eight years of research, studying over 20,000 research articles on the subject, and it covers information learned in the past 100 years. Kiefer doesn’t rely on magazine articles, popular opinion, or gym-rat wisdom. Kiefer’s approach to fitness and health is that if no evidence exists in the research literature, then one should assume that the information is worthless. A physicist, however, must also understand that we never move forward without exploring the real world. This applies to the lab as well as the gym. In keeping with this, Kiefer is following in the footsteps of fitness and health leaders like Ian King, Charles Poliquin, Christian Thibaudeau. Taking guidance from respected authorities and his own fifteen years of experience, Kiefer combines the best of laboratory research with tried-and-true, real-world knowledge. John Kiefer’s goal is to achieve super-human results for his clients, and discover the extremes of human performance through training and nutrition. He has studied over 40,000 medical research papers covering various facets of human biology to guide his work. His extensive knowledge of human nutrition and performance is tempered by 15 years of experience applying, observing and refining his methodology. Kiefer graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Physics from Otterbein College in 1997 in under three years. He received his Master of Science degree from the University of Florida in December 2001. The analytic skills he learned as a physicist help him understand and synthesize massive amounts of information into a single picture.
